April is a time for witnessing the beginnings of floral blooms. It’s the warm embrace of the emerging sunlight after a cold winter season. The month is the beginning of the transition into a new natural cycle of life, and it’s the perfect time to go outside and enjoy nature. April also happens to be National Poetry Month.
National Poetry Month is an occasion to celebrate the importance of poets and poetry in our culture. Poets are encouraged to craft new rhythmic pieces of literature, and poetry consumers are gifted the satisfying taste of raw emotion painted with words. The creative rebirth themes associated with spring present the perfect example of poetry.
The start of the astrological calendar begins when spring arrives. Most religious calendars also renew at this time. The spring equinox falls at the end of March and continues the season into April, May, and most of June. The season of planting seeds gives way to saplings that become mature plants in the summer. These same plants in autumn show signs of age and eventually die during the cold winter months before experiencing a rebirth in spring. They take this time to create and share more seeds that will continue with this cycle.
Poetry is a lot like the flowering plants of spring. People will pass by the fruits of poetry and either share, consume, or become inspired to create more flowering poetry. The fields of each blossoming poem are all unique and differ from one another. Each poem is different from one another. Like flowers, they are each different, but they either give substance, share emotions, or exist for the art and the beauty of it all. The two creative forces of nature and poetry go hand in hand, inspiring wandering spirits to return and enjoy.
